Introducing the Ya’sou Gyro!
Even if you’re not Greek, you may have heard the Greek expression “ya’sou” or “yassas” in your travels (or maybe even right here at Freskos!) Greeks often greet each other with this friendly, casual phrase, but what does it mean?
What Does Ya’sou Mean?
Literally translated, ya’sou means “ to your health” – and is used to greet someone and wish them good health. That’s why, in the spirit of “your health,” Freskos has an exciting new item on our menu – we call it the “Ya’sou” gyro and it’s available exclusively at Freskos.
What’s in the Ya’sou Gyro?
As with all of our classic Greek sandwiches, we start with a warm pita – fresh from the oven, thinly sliced red onion, tomato, fresh sprigs of dill all topped with a generous dollop of tzatziki.
However, here is what sets the “ya’sou” gyro apart from all others – it’s made with a plant-based “meat” for a healthy, tasty alternative to the typical lamb and beef gyro. Whether you’re a vegetarian or simply trying to reduce the amount of meat you consume, we know you’ll love this fresh new addition to our menu!
It is believed that a plant-based diet can help reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes and that limiting animal proteins in your diet can lead to a healthier lifestyle. Plant-based diets also promote weight loss because most plants have fewer calories than animal and processed foods Plant-based diets can also help you cleanse and detoxify your body.
We also offer a number of vegetarian side dishes to complement your “Ya’sou” gyro… try our gigantes, giant Greek beans in tomato sauce and olive oil. Our Greek lemon potatoes are roasted in olive oil, garlic and vegetable broth, a wholesome alternative to fries.
What are the best reasons to enjoy a “Ya’sou” gyro? It’s made fresh. It’s made fast and it’s truly delicious! If you’re on-the-go this is a healthy alternative to fast food. Come in today for the “Ya’sou” gyro available exclusively at Freskos and remember to greet us with a friendly “yassas” when ordering!
